Ingredients

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (Panko for extra crunch)
- Cooking spray
For the Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the Onions:
- Cut the top off each onion and peel off the outer layer.
- Cut the onion into quarters, stopping about 1/2 inch from the root end so the onion stays together.
- Continue cutting each section in half until you have 8-12 sections (depending on the size of the onion).
- Prepare the Breading Stations:
- Station 1: In a shallow dish, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Station 2: In another shallow dish, beat the eggs with the milk until well combined.
- Station 3: In a third shallow dish, place the breadcrumbs.
- Bread the Onions:
- Dip each onion into the flour mixture, ensuring all sections are well coated. Shake off any excess.
- Dip the floured onion into the egg mixture, making sure it gets into all the layers.
- Finally, coat the onion with the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere the breadcrumbs to the onion layers.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Air Fry the Onions: Place the breaded onions in the air fryer basket, cut side up. Spray generously with cooking spray. Air fry for 10-15 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and crispy. Check halfway through and spray with more cooking spray if needed.
- Prepare the Dipping Sauce: While the onions are cooking, combine all the dipping sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
- Serve: Remove the blooming onions from the air fryer and let cool slightly. Serve warm with the dipping sauce.
